ISW: Russia Has Decided To Hide Failures On The Frontline

The Kremlin has overestimated its capabilities.

Putin is using strikes on Ukrainian cities and aggressive rhetorical campaigns to undermine the morale of Ukrainians and convince the West that a Russian victory in Ukraine is inevitable and that support for Ukraine is futile. This is written by analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), commenting on the latest Russian attacks on Ukraine.

The report notes that Russia's demands have not changed over the past three years of war and ignores the fact that the battlefield situation has changed dramatically and Russian offensives have slowed considerably.

"However, Putin remains deeply committed to distracting from the realities of the battlefield situation, as cutting off Western military aid to Ukraine is the only realistic option Also, Russia's defense industrial base cannot produce armored vehicles and artillery systems at a rate that would offset Russia's current rate of losses.

"The Kremlin may be reassessing its ability to sustain long-term military action and appears to be reprioritizing its efforts to persuade the West to concede to Russian demands in light of Russia's economic and military constraints," the analysts stressed.
