A decision can be made within two months.
Polish vegetable producers demand that the government ban imports of cucumbers and tomatoes from Belarus and Russia. They speak of unequal conditions due to the cost of energy resources and sanctions imposed by Russia against European vegetables.
In a comment to the portal o2.pl, the operating director of the Association of Tomato and Cucumber Producers in Greenhouses Lukasz Gwizdala said that the association is actively negotiating on this issue with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Environment. The officials, according to him, are sympathetic.
"Together we have worked out a position according to which a good solution would be to encourage the EU authorities to impose an embargo on exports of cucumbers and tomatoes from Russia and Belarus. A decision on this issue could be made within a month or two. We expect it to be implemented," Gwizdala said.
He added that Polish producers incur high costs as they are obliged to comply with EU norms on quality and production. The Russians have no such obligations. Gwizdala believes that this is unfair competition.
