The ultra-left claimed involvement in the blackouts in Cannes and Nice.

Anarchists have claimed responsibility for large-scale power failures on the French Côte d'Azur. This was reported on Sunday, May 25, by the media company BFMTV with reference to an anonymous statement that was submitted to the prosecutor's office of the French districts of Grasse and Draguignan, writes "Deutsche Welle".

The statement was published on May 25 on a website run by activists of the ultra-left movement. In it, the authors introduce themselves as two "anarchist groups" who claim responsibility "for attacking electricity facilities on the Côte d'Azur."

"On the eve of the Cannes Film Festival awards ceremony and gala, we knocked out the main substation supplying the Cannes agglomeration and sawed off the 225 kV power line coming from Nice," the statement reads.

The authors added that "to protect their ideals" they wanted to leave research centers, aviation and aerospace enterprises, startups, the airport and other industrial, military and technological facilities in the region without electricity.

The veracity of the statement has not yet been confirmed.
