The three leaders called on Tbilisi to start a dialog with the opposition.
Leaders of France, Germany and Poland on the occasion of Georgia's Independence Day called on the country's authorities to return the country to the democratic path and start a dialog with the opposition and civil society.
This is reported by "Ekho Kavkaza".
French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in a joint statement on Georgia's Independence Day declared solidarity with the Georgian people and support for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"We support the democratic and European aspirations of the Georgian people, reflecting the desire to be part of the European family.... We condemn all actions of the Georgian authorities leading to a rollback of democracy, an attack on civil society, the media and critics of the authorities," they said.
The leaders emphasized that they expect Georgia to respect freedom of expression and freedom of assembly, as well as to investigate cases of excessive use of force.
"Laws that are contrary to European standards should be changed; there should be a return to much-needed reforms. The Georgian authorities must resume dialog with the opposition and civil society," Macron, Merz and Tusk said.
