Trump Considers Lifting All Biden-era Restrictions On Ukraine

This will help force Russia to negotiate.

The United States has yet to lift all restrictions imposed during Joe Biden's presidency on Ukraine's conduct of hostilities, but Donald Trump is "seriously considering" doing so, two senior Western officials told the Kyiv Post.

"All previously imposed restrictions - whether they have already been relaxed or not - are being reconsidered because Trump believes that the current status quo is not in our common interest in forcing Russia to negotiate," one of the officials said, without providing further details.

One Western official told the publication that Trump's final decision on pressuring Russia, as well as the next stage of support for Ukraine, will be discussed in meetings with German officials in Washington this week.

The source said German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful plans to arrive in the US capital in the coming days. Wadeful said Europe is already preparing a new package of sanctions. "A reaction from the West will follow, and I think also from the United States of America," he added.

Russia and Ukraine specialist Jorge Rivero says a possible easing of Western restrictions on Ukraine's use of long-range weapons represents a shift in the operational and strategic environment of the war.

"A relaxation of restrictions could allow Kiev to strike military facilities on Russian territory, including airbases from which to launch Geranium-2 drones and strategic bombers that carry out massive strikes on Ukrainian cities," he said.
