There will also be an increase in the number of National Guardsmen deployed to this city.
The US federal authorities have decided to double the number of National Guardsmen under their control stationed in Los Angeles amid protests against anti-immigration raids - up to 4,000 people. This was announced on Monday, June 9, by California Governor Gavin Newsom on social network X.
In addition to the new National Guard units, 700 Marines from the Camp Pendleton base in California will also be sent to Los Angeles. The U.S. presidential administration justified the decision by "intensifying threats to federal employees and buildings," writes German Wave.
U.S. President Donald Trump, commenting on the ongoing protests in Los Angeles, blamed "professional agitators and rioters" for creating the unrest. He threatened to send more law enforcement officials to California, reporting to the federal center rather than local authorities.
And in a post on his social media network Truth Social, Trump threatened violence against protesters who would show "disrespect" to the soldiers he sent.
