Pashinyan Called On The Head Of The Armenian Church To Resign

Armenian PM urged church to elect new head.

The head of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II has broken his vow of celibacy and must now resign. This was stated by Prime Minister of the Republic Nikol Pashinyan in the social network Facebook.

"Karekin II has broken his vow of celibacy, which he took voluntarily, and he has a child," Pashinyan wrote.

The politician added that if Karekin tries to challenge his words, he will prove what he said in the necessary format. Pashinyan noted that according to the Code of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Garegin cannot be a bishop, archbishop, as well as a Catholicos.

The Armenian Prime Minister urged the Church to elect a new head. At the same time, he stated the need to vet this person before the election of the Catholicos.
