NATO Secretary General: Pledge To Admit Ukraine To The Alliance Still Stands

  • 10.06.2025, 10:11

The process of Kyiv's admission to the Alliance is irreversible.

The political promise of NATO leaders regarding Ukraine's future membership in the Alliance remains in force, even if this position will not be fixed in the final communiqué of the NATO summit to be held on June 24-25 in The Hague.

This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during a speech at Chatham House in London, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

"We said that Ukraine's path to NATO is irreversible. And this assessment will not change after the summit," Rutte emphasized.

According to him, a mention of Ukraine is likely to be present in the final document, but the wording depends on consensus among member states. He emphasized that even in the absence of a relevant paragraph in the official communiqué, the Alliance's common position on supporting Ukraine remains unshakable.

Rutte also recalled that Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic course was confirmed at the level of NATO summit decisions, starting from Bucharest in 2008, when it was first declared that Ukraine would become a member of the Alliance.
