Explosions are heard in Tehran.

On the night of June 13, the Israeli Air Force launched strikes on Iran. Explosions were heard in Tehran. Israel declared a state of emergency and closed its airspace, Deutsche Welle reports.

The Israeli Air Force launched a "pre-emptive strike" on Iranian territory on the night of Friday, June 13, Reuters reports, citing Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz. Israel has also declared a state of emergency, AFP news agency reports.

"Following the State of Israel's pre-emptive strike on Iran, a missile and drone attack on the State of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the near future," The Times of Israel quoted Katz as saying.

"Loud explosions can be heard in various places in the capital Tehran," Iran's state television reported. Iran's air defense system is also said to have been put on full alert, and all flights have been suspended at Iran's main Imam Khomeini airport.

Israel has also closed its airspace.

CAF: Operation targets Iran's nuclear program

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has confirmed that it has launched an operation against Iran's nuclear program, codenamed "The Lion People."

The IDF says Iran has enough enriched uranium to build 15 nuclear bombs within days, so Israel needs to take action against this "imminent threat," The Times of Israel reports.

Israel attacks dozens of targets in Iran

The IDF has struck dozens of targets inside Iran related to the nuclear program and other military installations, the IDF said. "The sounds of numerous explosions" were heard in particular near Iran's nuclear facility in the city of Natanz, Reuters reported.

"We struck at the heart of Iran's nuclear enrichment program. We have also struck at the heart of Iran's ballistic missile program," Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said. "Iran still has significant capabilities to harm us. The operation will continue for as long as necessary," he emphasized.

Information agencies, particularly Reuters, report that the Israeli Air Force attacked not only nuclear and military facilities in Iran, but also targeted the Islamic Republic's military leadership. The results of these attacks, however, are not reported.
