The dictator fears a Ukrainian response.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that the regime of Belarus dictator Alexander Lukashenko is afraid of provocations and tries to hold military exercises far away from the Ukrainian border.
According to RBC-Ukraine, Zelensky said this during a briefing.
The head of Ukraine said this when asked about the risk of a repeat Russian offensive in Zhytomyr, Volyn or Chernihiv from the territory of Belarus under the guise of joint exercises.
"I think Lukashenko himself is afraid that we in Ukraine will think that the presence of the continent at the exercises is a preparation for offensive actions. He understands, after our retaliatory steps in Kursk direction, if we feel threatened - what we are capable of," Zelensky noted.
The president said that the latest report of the Foreign Intelligence Service indicates that Russian troops may move training grounds even deeper into the territory of Belarus to avoid provocations and Ukrainian response.
"I just had the latest report a couple of days ago by the Foreign Intelligence Service, and there was such a signal. But it all needs to be verified. The risk with the training of 'Russians' is historically known to us, unfortunately," Zelensky added.
He also recalled that a full-scale invasion in 2022 began exactly from the Belarusian direction after the exercises.
