And reminded me about 2022.
On June 16, the Council of the European Union extended for another year economic sanctions against Russia for the illegal annexation of the Ukrainian Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. This is reported by the press service of the EU Council.
"Today the Council decided to extend the sanctions imposed by the EU in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol by the Russian Federation until June 23, 2026. [...] The EU does not recognize and continues to condemn the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation as a violation of international law," the statement reads.
The EU recalled that the restrictive measures were first introduced in June 2014 and include:
bans on imports to the EU of products manufactured in annexed Crimea;
bans on investments and tourist services from Crimea;
bans on exports to companies from annexed Crimea or for use on the peninsula of a number of goods and technologies.
"Since 2022, Russia has further violated Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity with its unprovoked and unjustified war of aggression against Ukraine. The EU remains firm in its commitment to Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders and its inalienable right to self-defense against Russian aggression," the release stated.
The EU is also "committed to the full implementation of its policy of non-recognition" of Russia's annexed Crimea.
