What The Head Of The Ministry Of Health Of Belarus Is Silent About

For now, Belarusians better still cheer with something inexpensive.
Belarusian officials continue to improve in the difficult art of turning illness into valor. Yesterday, on the occasion of the Day of the Medic, the specialized minister Alexander Khodjaev succeeded, drawing attention to how excellent the situation with cheap drugs is in Belarus. Nothing is reported about the situation with expensive drugs, writes planbmedia.io.
Cheap and surly: will provide the state
- Providing medicines, quality and affordable assistance at all levels, in the village, in the city, in small areas - we are systematically working in all these directions," Hodzhaev shared on air of "Belarus 1.
He also mentioned the success in putting prices in order.
"62% of medicines produced in the Republic of Belarus do not cost more than $2, if translated into conventional units. And if we take these 62% for 100%, then 32% of the drugs produced are those that cost less than $1," he boasted.
The Minister is convinced that it is necessary to continue working to make the range of products available to the general public.
"At the moment, 60% of drugs, which are used in the formulary, are produced in Belarus. This is our pharmacological safety. We have a task to bring this value up to 70% this year," said the Minister.
Dear and rich: while more often themselves
Strong KPIs, there is neither efficiency, nor innovation. But we are rich. The minister said nothing about providing Belarusians with modern imported drugs. Neither about those drugs that have not been registered in Belarus for years (which means that Belarusians don't have to provide them), nor about those for the purchase of which money has to be raised by philanthropists.
Last year, the U.S. FDA approved 50 new drugs. The list includes drugs for breast cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease and others. All of them are probably more expensive than $2. And not available to everyone - even in the US. But they are, and the hope is that more and more diseases will be brought under control. The results of the last few decades show impressive advances in the treatment of cancer, for example. Immune, gene therapy, CAR-T drugs make it possible to cure or control many once fatal diseases.
But for now, Belarusians are better off getting sick with something inexpensive.
