A European diplomat was attacked in the Russian city of Vladivostok. The EU is summoning the Russian ambassador "on the carpet" for an explanation.
According to The Guardian.
The European Union has summoned Russia's ambassador in Brussels for an explanation following the attack on the official in the city of Vladivostok last month.
"We condemn any violence against EU diplomats. They must be able to carry out their duties without fear or intimidation. The safety of our staff is paramount and we will continue to review the protection of our diplomatic staff," the EU speaker said.
A European diplomat is known to have been attacked in Vladivostok on May 26. The official's name, nationality and state of health have not been disclosed.
But German publication Der Spiegel reported that the victim was a diplomat from Romania who had come to the Russian city on official business.
Media reports that the woman was attacked after she left her hotel for a morning walk. A car stopped near her and two men got out of it. She was threatened and then beaten.
The German edition, citing EU diplomatic sources, reported that the men allegedly work for the Russian security services.
