Karol Nawrocki Wins Poland's Presidential Runoff Election

The Right and Justice-backed candidate won 50.89% of the vote.

Poland has held the second round of presidential elections. Fighting for the presidential seat on June 1 were the liberal candidate from the ruling Civic Coalition, Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski and the head of the Institute of National Remembrance of Poland Karol Nawrocki, who is supported by the opposition conservative Law and Justice party.

The State Election Commission reported that Karol Nawrocki wins with 50.89% of the vote. Rafal Trzaskowski garnered 49.11%.

The turnout in the second round was 71.63%.

The first round of Poland's presidential election was held on May 18.

The winner of the runoff will succeed Andrzej Duda, whose presidential term expires in August.
