Donald Tusk delivered a special address.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced that he will ask the Sejm for a vote of confidence in his government, reacting to the defeat of Rafał Trzaskowski in the second round of the presidential election.

This is reported by RMF FM.

Tusk delivered a special address on Monday evening in which he commented on the results of the second round of the presidential election, unfavorable for the Civic Platform party, which he leads.

The Platform's nominee, Rafal Trzaskowski, lost the battle for the presidency by some 370,000 votes.

In the address, Tusk promised that the government "in accordance with the Constitution and its own conscience" would cooperate with the new president "wherever necessary and possible."

He noted that the Polish government's action plan under the new president "will require unity and courage from the entire coalition," and "the first test will be a vote of confidence, which I will address the Sejm about in the near future."

If the vote of confidence in Tusk's government fails, he must resign, after which the country forms a new government or announces early parliamentary elections.
