The Kremlin got nervous.

The Kremlin called regime change in Iran "unacceptable".

As Sky News reports, Putin's spokesman Dmitri Peskov said.

He said the assassination of the country's Supreme Leader would "open Pandora's box."

Peskov said Russia would react "very negatively" if Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was assassinated.

The statements came amid reports that US President Donald Trump will decide on further action on Iran in "two weeks".

"The situation is extremely tense and dangerous not only for the region, but for the whole world. The expansion of the participants in the conflict is potentially even more dangerous. It will only lead to another round of confrontation and escalation of tensions in the region," the Russian dictator's spokesman added.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu believes the removal of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will end, rather than escalate, the war between Israel and Iran that erupted late last week.
