Germany Records Record Population Again

  • 20.06.2025, 20:42

At the end of 2024, almost 83.6 million people live in the FRG.

Despite the fact that the number of births in Germany in 2024 was lower than the number of deaths, the country's population has grown - due to migration.

This is according to data from the German Federal Statistical Office, cited by Welt.

At the end of 2024, almost 83.6 million people lived in Germany, which is the largest recorded figure. The increase compared to 2023 was 0.1%, or 121 thousand people.

The growth of the German population is linked to the arrival of foreigners: according to the Federal Statistical Office, Germany's foreign population grew by 283 thousand people, or 2.3%.

The share of foreigners in Germany's population rose from 14.5% at the end of 2023 to 14.8% at the end of 2024. The largest groups of foreigners were Turks (about 1.4 million), Ukrainians (almost 1.1 million) and Syrians (about 890 thousand).

But natural population growth in Germany in 2024 was again not recorded, as deaths exceeded births by 330 thousand.

German population grew by 300 thousand people during 2023, to a record 84.7 million - net migration into the country compensated for low birth rates and an aging population.
