NBC: U.S. Prepares For Possible Iranian Response Within 48 Hours

US President Donald Trump's administration is preparing for a potential response from Iran, and the next 48 hours are of particular concern.

Two defense officials and a senior White House official said this, the NBC television station reported.

The officials said it is not yet clear whether any retaliation would be directed overseas or domestically.

Two officials familiar with military planning said earlier this week that Iran already has plans to attack U.S. bases and facilities in the Middle East if the need arises, though they cautioned at the time that there was no indication those plans were imminently deployable.

"U.S. bases and facilities have been on the highest state of alert for months, but after Israel went to war with Iran on June 13, officials speaking earlier this week said concerns about potential attacks on U.S. facilities by Iran or its proxies in the region have increased even further," the TV station noted.
