The head of the Kremlin is detached from reality.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin continues to believe that he will be able to seize four regions of Ukraine and win a full-scale war. Nevertheless, the situation on the front suggests that defeat awaits Moscow. This opinion was expressed by retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant General David Deptula on air "Channel 24".
He said Putin is convinced of his victory over Ukraine, as this is how the Russian military command reports to the dictator about the situation on the front. He stressed that all of Russia lives in an environment where the head of the Kremlin is in complete control of the information flow.
"One of the factors why Ukraine, despite being numerically and resource-wise significantly inferior to Russia, shows impressive results in containing this state, this organization and quality of governance. But you have done a remarkable job in containing this superpower," Deptula said.
He added that Russia achieves success on the frontline not because of professionalism, but because of servility to the leadership. Deptula believes this is why Putin thinks he is winning Ukraine.
"With us, it's called 'drinking water from your bathtub.' This is when a person is so detached from reality that he believes in his own illusions. In Russia, this phenomenon has become institutionalized," he said.
In the Russian army, it is impossible to be promoted through merit or command abilities, Deptula added. He recalled that Putin fired a great many commanders because they failed.
