Russia Is Approaching A Deep Economic Crisis

The country is on the brink of recession.
During the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, which took place on June 18-21, representatives of various Russian agencies assessed the state of the Russian economy. Most statements sounded cautious, and experts are afraid to talk about the real state of affairs. In fact, the Russian economy is experiencing a decline in production, including in the military-industrial complex (MIC). This was reported today, June 22, on the air of the TV channel FREEDOM by Ivan Us, candidate of economic sciences, chief consultant of the Center for Foreign Policy Studies of the National Institute for Strategic Studies.
According to him, during the forum the Russian Minister of Economy said that the country is on the verge of recession.
"He did not confirm, but admitted that recession is close. By the way, many analytical structures of far from opposition character speak about it. The same Center for Macroeconomic Analysis and Short-Term Forecasts, which is headed by the brother of Russian Defense Minister Belousov, has been writing in its reports for several months now that there is likely to be a recession in Russia this year, i.e. a decline in production. This is a structure close to the government, and it does not give all the figures. And if you dig into the figures in more detail, it turns out that the decline in production, which is present, covers the economy as a whole, but at the same time there is a slight decline in the military-industrial complex," said Us.
The expert noted that the most significant decline in production is observed in the economy, which is not related to the military-industrial complex.
"It is like inflation. That is, when they consider inflation in Russia, they say that it is around 10%. But if we take out the growth of the cost of cars, TV sets, computers, i.e. all the equipment, and leave only food, the inflation rate will be 20%, or even more. People do not buy TV sets or cars every day, they buy food, and the inflation they face every day is more important to them. That is why now the Russian economy is already entering recession, it is beginning to feel it more and more," he explained.
He believes that this is why at various economic forums there are more and more bold statements about the need for change in the country, that it is necessary, in fact, to stop hostilities.
"They can't say so directly, but they hint at it clearly, saying that in the current situation it is very difficult not to descend into a deep crisis, it is necessary to change something of what is happening now, which is pushing the Russian Federation into this very abyss of economic crisis. So far, except for saying: "Stop the war in Ukraine", but based on the growth of such statements, I do not exclude that in the near future they will more boldly say that if we do not stop the war in Ukraine, Russia will have a huge crisis, and then it is unknown whether it will come out of this crisis in its current form", - he summarized.
