Zelensky: Russia May Attack NATO In The Next Five Years

Ukraine's president called on the Alliance to speed up rearmament.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has said that Russian ruler Vladimir Putin could attack a NATO member country as early as the next five years to test the Alliance's strength.

"We believe that starting from 2030, Putin may have much greater capabilities," Zelensky said in an interview with Sky News.

He added that Ukraine is currently holding Russia back, but there could be new threats ahead:

"Today he is held back by Ukraine, he doesn't have time to mush his army."

When asked by journalist Mark Austin if a Russian attack is possible within a few months, Zelensky said, "I don't believe Putin is ready."

Zelensky also harshly commented on NATO's defense plans, which call for spending to rise to 5 percent of GDP by 2035. He called these plans very slow.

The Ukrainian president urged the West not to delay, emphasizing that Russia is already planning new military campaigns:

"In any case, Putin needs a pause, he needs the lifting of sanctions, he needs a trained army. And 10 years is a very long time. By then he will have a new army ready."
