To improve the strained relations between the countries.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is preparing to meet with his American vis-a-vis Donald Trump on the sidelines of a NATO summit to improve strained relations between the countries.

Some informed interlocutors told Bloomberg, writes European Truth.

The agency's interlocutors said the meeting is expected to take place in The Hague late Tuesday night, June 24.

Relations between the two sides escalated after Turkey's decision to buy Russia's S-400 missile defense system, prompting the United States to ban Ankara from buying F-35 fighter jets.

The interlocutors said relations have also deteriorated due to US support for Syrian Kurdish militias, which Turkey considers a threat.

They noted that Erdogan will try to convince Trump to lift the ban by providing guarantees that his country will use the Russian missile defense system in a controlled manner.

Separately, Ankara will also seek permission to purchase and assemble GE Aerospace's F110 and F404 engines, which are used in U.S. fighter jets and Turkey's twin-engine Kaan combat aircraft and Hurjet trainer planes.
