Kremlin-appointed "minister" of transportation Alexander Balyshev and his deputy, head of the road department Sergey Zhuravlev, were detained in Kherson Region. They were accused of taking a large bribe (part 6 of article 290 of the Criminal Code) and arrested, Kommersant reports. In the near future, the officials will be sent to Moscow, as the case is being handled by the central office of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

According to law enforcers, Balyshev and Zhuravlev received several million rubles from a representative of a private company for assistance in obtaining state contracts for the construction and repair of roads in the region. They face up to 15 years in prison. Balyshev has been "minister" of transport since October 26, 2023. His lawyer Alexei Mikhalchik declined to comment on the substance of the charges due to a lack of instructions from his client.
