New US Deal With Iran: Trump Issued An Ultimatum

The American president has ruled out any enrichment of uranium.

President Donald Trump said the U.S. will not allow uranium enrichment as part of any deal with Iran the countries reach.

This was reported by Bloomberg.

"This AUTOPOSITION should have stopped Iran from 'enriching' a long time ago. According to our potential agreement - WE WILL NOT DO ANYTHING to enrich URAN!", Trump wrote, without going into detail.

Bloomberg notes that the US president has regularly signaled that he thinks a deal may be close, and has said Iran could face military strikes if it does not.

In addition, Trump has long promised that Iran will not have nuclear weapons. He also said last week that he told Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu that a military strike on Iran would be "inappropriate" right now because "we are very close to a solution."

Tegaran, meanwhile, has said he wants clear guarantees that sanctions would be lifted in any deal. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the U.S. was not yet ready to specify how sanctions would be lifted.

According to the NYT on Saturday, May 30, the U.S. handed Iran its first formal proposal on key points of the nuclear deal.

This came hours after U.N. inspectors issued a report that Tehran's uranium stockpile had increased significantly, almost to the level needed to build a nuclear weapon.
