Earlier Azerbaijan announced the detention of FSB agents.

A propagandist of Ruptly video agency Aitekin Huseynova, who filmed the search in the office of Sputnik Azerbaijan, has been detained in Baku. This was reported by the agency itself with reference to her mother. The reasons for the detention were not given, Radio Liberty reported.

In the morning of June 30, a search took place in the editorial office of Sputnik Azerbaijan in Baku. According to the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry, the accreditation of the publication was suspended back in February, but the editorial office continued its work "through illegal financing."

After the search, the editor-in-chief of the publication Igor Kartavy and editor-in-chief Evgeny Belousov were detained. Azerbaijani media reported that they were allegedly linked to Russia's FSB.

The search in the office of Sputnik Azerbaijan took place against the backdrop of worsening relations between Baku and Moscow after several members of the Azerbaijani diaspora were detained in Yekaterinburg on suspicion of murder and assassination attempts in cases dating back to the early 2000s. Two people were killed during the detention operation. The Russian Investigative Committee is investigating the circumstances of their deaths.

In response to the incident, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry strongly protested to Russia, demanding a transparent investigation and punishment of those responsible for the deaths.

Azerbaijan canceled all planned cultural events involving Russia.

Ruptly is the video division of the pro-Kremlin RT television channel, part of the Rossiya Segodnya media holding headed by Dmitri Kiselev and Margarita Simonyan. The Sputnik agency is also part of this holding.
