Russian Air Defense Attacked A Passenger Plane From Minsk?

  • 11.07.2025, 8:46

The attack on flight AFL1845 was reported on social media.

A Russian air defense attack on a Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Minsk to Moscow was reported by Russian blogger Alexander Nevzorov.

The Russian Armed Forces' air defense complex allegedly nearly caused a plane crash by mistaking a passenger flight for a drone. In the audio recording of the radio broadcast, the pilots can be heard shouting to the military that civilians were flying and that the air defense system was hitting the wrong target. During the incident, the Russians were fending off Ukrainian drones that were attacking a Russian military facility in a nearby town, "Focus" wrote.

The memo indicates that the Boeing 737-800 (162-189 passengers) may have been hit by the Pantsir complex. The calculation probably mistook the Boeing for a UAV and tried to hit the civilian board.

According to Nevzorov, the incident occurred on the night of July 11 at 0:20. The board was on its way from Minsk to Moscow and was damaged during landing due to the actions of an air defense complex. The journalist referred to his own unnamed sources, who told about the emergency incident and provided an audio recording. On the recording, a male voice can be heard repeating that a passenger plane is flying.

"The pilot of the flight reports. Civilian route. Permission has been granted. We are being targeted by air defense. I repeat, air defense is firing at the civilian flight. This is not a target. There are people here. Repeat, civilian aircraft has been mistaken for a UAV. Echelon maintained. Route is confirmed. We are under active fire," says the voice on the recording.

The channel also notes that the board received minor damage, but the pilots were able to land the flight, and there are no casualties. At the same time Nevzorov notes that he has not yet received official confirmation about the incident.

The flightaware portal has information about Aeroflot flight AFL1845. It is indicated that the plane left Minsk at 23:27 (Minsk time) on July 10 and landed in Moscow at 00:36. There is also a map of the flight, which does not show anything unusual.

Rosaviation and representatives of the Russian authorities have not commented on the information about a possible incident in "Sheremetyevo".

On the night of the incident, there was a drone raid on Russian military facilities, wrote Focus. The town of Dubno (80 km north of "Sheremetyevo"), where the Kronstadt military-industrial complex plant is located, was under attack. There was also noise in Tula and near Kolomna in the Moscow region (south of Moscow).
