Zelensky: Peace Is Possible Only Through Strength

The Ukrainian president thanked Trump for the decision to transfer Patriot systems to Kiev.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky thanked American leader Donald Trump for the decision to transfer 17 Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.

"I am grateful to President Trump for his willingness to support the protection of our people's lives. This war - it only continues because of Russia, only because of Putin's desire to continue the war, to prolong the war. Russia is trying to make war sort of the new normal. You can never agree with that," Zelensky said.

He emphasized that absolutely everything possible must be done to force Russia to stop killing, to make real peace and security.

"Peace is only possible through strength. We've talked to President Trump about this, we've talked to our congressional representatives. We are working at the level of our teams to provide the forces and means we need to protect lives, to protect our state, American weapons, American sanctions against Russia - a sanctions bill has already been prepared in Congress," the president said.

The president added that work continues on securing European funding and support, as well as joint defense.

"I am grateful to our team, I am grateful to the United States, Germany and Norway for preparing a new Patriot solution for Ukraine. We are also working on big defense agreements with America. This is not yet the time to talk about the details publicly, but we can do a lot together for the sake of security," he emphasized.
