Egils Helmanis arrived with a shipment of humanitarian aid.

The mayor of Ogre (Latvia) Egils Helmanis was injured in Ukraine during another volunteer trip, probably in the frontline zone.

This was reported by the spokesman of the municipality Patriks Griva, informs LSM.

According to Griva, Helmanis arrived in Ukraine with a shipment of humanitarian aid - in particular, about 20 cars and other equipment for the Ukrainian military. The mayor has been making volunteer trips regularly since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.

"There was shelling last night and he was injured as a result," the municipal spokesman said. Helmanis is in stable condition, but details of the incident and the exact location are not being released for security reasons.

Griva emphasized that the route of the trip was kept secret each time and that "every such trip involves danger."
