A ferry with more than 60 people on board has sunk near Bali. Rescuers managed to pull more than 20 passengers out of the water, but the fate of dozens is still unknown.
About it reports AP.
On the night of July 3, a large-scale tragedy occurred in the Java Strait between the islands of Java and Bali. Just half an hour after leaving the port of Ketapang, the passenger ferry KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya sank.
On board were 53 passengers, 12 crew members and 22 vehicles, including 14 trucks.
According to preliminary data, the vessel was caught in a storm with waves up to two meters high, which caused the ferry to capsize and sink. People were stranded in cold water in the dark, making their rescue much more difficult.
Rescue Operation
An estimated 20 people have been rescued as of the morning of July 3. Some of them were unconscious due to hypothermia.
Unfortunately, there are also dead. Various sources report the discovery of three or four bodies.
At the same time, some 38-43 people are still missing.
The search and rescue operation is now underway. At least nine rescue vessels, including Coast Guard ships, tugboats and inflatable boats, are working at the site.
Rescuers continue to comb the waters in hopes of finding passengers still alive.
