Bild: Merz Targets Secret Deal With Trump

For the sake of supplying Patriot SAMs to Ukraine.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is targeting an arms deal with the United States, under which the German side intends to purchase two Patriot SAMs from Washington for further transfer of these systems to Ukraine.

This is reported by Bild.

According to the newspaper, the German side sent the corresponding request to the head of the Pentagon Pete Hegseth several weeks ago.

The journalists remind: earlier the Ukrainian authorities tried to independently negotiate with Washington on the purchase of the above-mentioned systems, but it was not successful. After that, Kiev turned to Berlin for help.

Today, however, it is unknown how the U.S. side will respond to the German request, given that the Trump administration has decided to suspend the supply of some weapons to Ukraine.

The article says that the loss of U.S. weapons will not be fully compensated, but Germany and European allies intend to try to provide Ukraine with at least Patriot systems necessary to protect Ukrainian settlements from Russian air strikes.
