Sky News: Britain's Prime Minister Starmer May Soon Step Down

  • 4.07.2025, 9:53

The Labor Party has given an approximate timeline.

The British Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, may have to resign within months if his government continues to "perform badly". This is the view among members of the Labor Party, and one unnamed government member and another unnamed prominent politician have already allegedly warned the British prime minister about this.

British broadcaster Sky News was told this by two sources from the Labor Party. However, these sources immediately noted "May next year" after "two to three months".

"Both warned that if Labour performs badly in next May's elections in Wales, Scotland and London, it could mean the end of (Starmer's) tenure in Downing Street," Sky News deputy political editor Sam Coates told Sky News.

Unfortunately, the broadcaster's political editorial did not clarify from party sources exactly which "two to three months" Labor would wait - this year, or still starting in May 2026.

Either way, Sam Coates also cites Starmer's subordinates who are also talking about the prime minister resigning "in a few months".

"The level of discontent and despair in some parts of the Labor Party is so impressive that it is now, on the first anniversary, that I am hearing from government ministers that Starmer will have to resign in a few months," Coates says.

The broadcaster's sources are talking about elections specifically in Wales, Scotland and London because it is believed that in these places "Labor is at risk of losing ground." The fact is that according to the latest polls, in Britain, the support rating of the Conservative Party has fallen to 16% (the lowest figure for the last 25 years), 17% of voters are ready to vote for the Democrats, and 22% for Labor.

The Reform UK party has the highest support now - 29%. This is the party that won the recent local elections.

In addition to "two to three months" and "May next year," the broadcaster also quotes Britain's health minister Wes Streeting as saying that Sir Keir Starmer is "constantly underestimated" and that for now he is "perfectly safe as prime minister."
