SBU Detains Chinese Spies In Kiev

The counterintelligence service of the Security Service of Ukraine has detained two Chinese spies in Kiev who were collecting secret technologies for the production of Ukrainian Neptun missiles. They tried to smuggle secret documentation on the missile system to China.
The SBU press service reported on July 9. According to the investigation, one of the spies is a 24-year-old ex-student of a technical university in Kiev. He stayed in the Ukrainian capital after he was expelled for academic failure in 2023.
The second spy is his father, who permanently resided in China, but periodically traveled to Ukraine to personally coordinate his son's agency work.
According to the case materials, the ex-student from China was to obtain technical documentation on the production of Ukrainian "Neptunes".
To do this, he tried to recruit a Ukrainian citizen who is related to the development of the latest weapons.
The SBU counterintelligence unmasked the spy at the beginning of his intelligence activities and detained him "on the hot" during the transfer of classified documents.
Subsequently, his father was detained, who was supposed to pass classified information to the Chinese intelligence services.
At the time of the searches, both of them were seized phones with evidence of their correspondence, where they coordinate their espionage activities.
The SBU investigators informed the detainees of suspicion under Part 1 Article 114 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine "espionage".
The defendants face up to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
