A Belarusian citizen has been sentenced to life imprisonment in this country.

Dhaka will not extradite to Minsk a Belarusian man sentenced to life imprisonment in Bangladesh in a murder case. The refusal was announced by the adviser on internal affairs of the Bangladeshi interim government Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on July 9 at a meeting with the Belarusian ambassador to India (to Bangladesh on a part-time basis) Mikhail Kasko, "Pozirk" noted.

The Bangladesh government spokesman explained the decision by the fact that the case is pending in the High Court (one of the Supreme Court's chambers), as well as the fact that there is no extradition agreement between Dhaka and Minsk.

Chowdhury noted that Belarus has good relations with Bangladesh. "But a criminal remains a criminal regardless of the country," he said, while adding that Dhaka "will provide maximum assistance in this matter."
